Could I Ask for More?

What a way to come back! Like I mentioned before, my favorite sport, my favorite course, my favorite place...and to feel like i did and come a way with a win was just the cherry on top! I'll give you a brief run through of the race..

It was not typical Queensland weather...big gusts of chilly wind, rain and overcast were the cards dealt for the morning. It was strange to see everyone shivering in their trackies thinking back to 2 years ago when we were pouring ice water down our suits to keep cool!

I've been struggling with getting cold lately and unfortunately in the time between being lined up in my trackies until the start my body temp dropped enough to affect my swimming again! As I've learned in many swim sessions over the past week..it doesn't take long for that to happen! I struggled through the entire swim...never getting clear water and boxed in...pushed/pulled around the whole time...it was a good welcome back to World Cup swimming! It was also the longest 1500m of my life! I exited the water much further back than usual but mounted my bike beside Felicity Abrahm, a renowned cyclist and felt a bit of relief. I got my feet into my shoes and hammered away in pursuit of the lead girls. To my surprise no one came with me. I even passed a pack of girls who didn't hop on the train! That was more than fine with me! I really had to put the hammer down for the first lap into the wind alone to catch the front group. Once i did i took a bit of time to recover, thinking the chase group would probably catch soon. Turns out or group of 8 was actually putting time on the chase group! After my monster effort, i struggled up some of the hills and accelerations. I hung in there and managed to recover a bit and was ready for the run. I was just counting down the time until i could get on my feet! I had a relatively smooth transition for my first race back and headed out at a comfortable rate as per Shauns instructions. I slowly built on each lap and just had one of those days where it didnt hurt. They don't come round all that often so i was grateful for it! I was so surprised to come to the finish first. I knew i was going well but i didn't expect that! It is nice to be back! I was thinking that running along with moffy...its just like the old days! (ok i wasn't just thinking it i said it to her while running, prompted by her offering me a water bottle...nothings changed!)

Mooloolaba 09

It was just a great day, fun from start to finish. I had lots of Aussie supporters out there this time around and a surprising number of Canadians out on the course too! I had a pretty low key evening because i am racing again this weekend but did manage to make it out to dinner and a party for a bit with the Aussie gang!

I know it's been a while since you guys have seen anything from me and i knew it was very important that i deliver in this race which luckily happened for me! I really want to thank all of the people that was stuck by me through the rough patches. Friends, family, coaches, squad members and my sponsors and supporters. Nike has given incredible support over the past few years never questioning a thing. The same goes for Teck, Shimano, Pro, Powerbar, Planet Organic,Orca and the Seawood Fund. Another big thanks to Triathlon Canada and PacificSport for their continued support and encouragement! I really do have a great team around me and I couldn't be more grateful!

I can't wait to get out there again!! But for now..it's BED TIME!! :)

Being from Australia ( Mooloolaba in fact), and being a very proud ambassador for the Aussie girls, I have to say that you will be the next big name in Female Triathlon. Your race in Mooloolaba further proved you are in top form and will be likely to test the one and only Emma Snowsill. Best of luck in the coming races, cant wait to see you race in M'ba next year.
    Best wishes Matt.

I work at Tri-It in Calgary, Alberta. This weekend we had a spinathon. During it, Jordan Bryden was able to get race results and announced to the crowd that you had won the race! The entire group went crazy with cheers and applause! Everyone is so proud of you Kirsten - no matter the result (but we do love it when our Canadian girl wins!). Congrats!!!!!
